Speak into the mouse like Scotty

Engadget has chimed in with an invention from Sony that’s so fantastic, I thought it was a joke. It’s a mouse that doubles as a USB phone set for Skype, Gizmo, and the like. It works normally as an optical mouse, and flips open so you can hold it as a telephone set. This isn’t for me. I can already imagine myself using it, saying, “Hang on while I put my phone, er mouse, down so I can open that spreadsheet.” Yet more evidence that the great Sony isn’t always the pragmatic Sony. Not to mention the obvious Star Trek IV humor. Remeber when Scotty was forced to use an ancient Mac SE in that movie? He picked up the mouse and talked into it like a microphone, thinking the computer was voice-controlled. “Hellloooo computer,” he said in his heavy Scottish accent.
